St. Andrew📷 source:

Andrew was the brother of Simon Peter and one of the twelve Apostles of Christ. According to the New Testament, he was the first to be called by Christ to become an Apostle, which is why in the Orthodox tradition he is often called 'Protocletus' (the first-called). The New Testament provides little information about his person, while related traditions and legends multiply from the 3rd century and particularly during the 8th and 9th centuries. According to Orthodox tradition, he is considered the founder of the Church of Byzantium, and the Patriarchs of Constantinople are his successors. On this day, the following names are celebrated: Andreas, Andrea, Andreanos, Andreana.
