Acronafplia is a rocky peninsula that constituted in antiquity the acropolis of Nafplio. It is located opposite Bourtzi and to the right of Nafplio at the entrance to the gulf of Argolis. It is accessible only from the north through an artificial historic passage called Arvanитia. This peninsula has an average elevation of 45 meters above sea level, a maximum length from east to west of 900 meters and a width of approximately 400 meters. Some parts of Acronafplia's walls are Cyclopean, which formed the foundations of later fortifications, and these sections are preserved to this day.
