The Palace of Phaistos is one of the most important Minoan archaeological sites in Crete, rivaling Knossos in scale and grandeur. Perched on a low hill in the fertile Messara plain, its sweeping views and well-preserved theatrical area, grand staircases, and ceremonial courtyards offer a vivid glimpse into the sophistication of Bronze Age Aegean civilization. The site is also famous as the findspot of the enigmatic Phaistos Disc, one of the most debated artifacts in the history of archaeology. In 2025, Phaistos was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List together with five other Minoan palatial centres.
