This colossal marble kouros, abandoned in an ancient quarry near the village of Apollonas, stands as a testament to Naxos's renowned sculptural tradition. Carved from a single block of the island's famous white marble during the Archaic period, the unfinished statue reveals the sophisticated techniques employed by ancient Greek sculptors. At over 10 meters in length, this monumental figure remains one of the largest kouroi ever created, offering invaluable insight into both marble extraction practices and the artistic vision of ancient Naxian craftsmen.
