Ancient Dion is an archaeological site with the ruins of an ancient Macedonian city, on the border of Thessaly near the Thermaic Gulf and the Haliacmon River. It is said to have taken its name from the temple of Zeus Hypsistos, whose foundations can still be seen today near the temple of Isis. Of the other two cities bearing the same name, one is located on the Chalcidice peninsula in the Strymon Gulf and the second is in Euboea, at Cape Kenaion near the Diadae Athens.
