Perched on the southwestern slope of the Acropolis, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus is a remarkably well-preserved ancient theatre built in the 2nd century AD by the wealthy Athenian benefactor Herodes Atticus. With its three-tiered stone seating carved into the hillside and an impressive wooden roof structure, this intimate venue once hosted musical and dramatic performances for the elite of Roman Athens. Today, it remains one of the finest examples of Roman-era Greek architecture and continues to host world-class performances during the Athens Festival.
