Schinia Beach is one of Attica's most celebrated stretches of coastline, extending for several kilometres along the eastern shore of the Marathon plain with a backdrop of a rare coastal pine forest. The beach gained international recognition as the venue for rowing and canoeing events during the 2004 Athens Olympics, and the purpose-built rowing centre remains a landmark of the area. Its shallow, calm waters and unspoiled natural surroundings make it a favourite escape from the capital for both locals and visitors.
